Fic--Stadt von Wundern, Stadt der verlorenen Gedächtnisse, Stadt der defekten Träume--PG-13
Title: Stadt von Wundern, Stadt der verlorenen Gedächtnisse, Stadt der defekten Träume
Author: Rubyfruit Pixie
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Genre: Character-fic. Not necessarily angst, but dark as all hell.
Rating: PG-13, hovering toward the R-rating
Characters: Kairi, Namine
Pairings: None overtly, but heavily implied Quistis/Kairi, Marluxia/Namine, and Sora/Namine.
Warnings: Profanity, blood, violence.
Summary: Namine's separate from Kairi now. What'd it mean for Kairi?
Disclaimer: Nope. Don't own Kingdom Hearts. I am playing with the characters and settings, if a little roughly.
A/N: The title is German, because I have some sort of weird infatuation for it. It means "City of Miracles, City of Lost Memories, City of Broken Dreams". Dramatic title, yes, but I think it fits. Heavily inspired by "Emerald Green" by See-Saw. The fic itself takes place after the events of KH2.
The sun sank slowly into the horizon as Kairi stood in the middle of her living room. She'd moved all the furniture out--no need to make a mess all over the heirloom love seat or the couch Tidus gave her, swearing that it brought good fortune to any who had it. She sighed, making sure that the circle was drawn correctly, checking the smaller Magic Circle in the book she held in one hand against the larger one she'd carved into the hardwood floor. A perfect match. It was a beautiful Circle she'd made. It was unfortunate that she'd never appreciate the artistic value of it.
She waited a few more painfully long minutes for the alarm clock to go off.
As the little alarm clock rang, Kairi summoned her Keyblade, and said one last thing to the clear and beautiful skies. "I'll be seein' ya." With that, she took her Keyblade and forced the blade into her stomach. She didn't even cry out, even as the pain ripped through every part of her body. After all, she'd planned this. More than that, it was the just thing to do. She winced as she brought the blade up ever so slowly until her legs gave out and she fell to the floor.
Kairi smiled as she closed her eyes, the warm blood pooling around her and into the Circle. The Soul-Cutting Ritual was complete. A shame she'd never meet her Nobody again.
-------------------
Three hours later, Namine stood just outside the Magic Circle. The blood still stained the white wooden floor, and pooled in the Magic Circle that Kairi could've spent days or even weeks carving into her floor. She probably got every affair in order, too. Chances are, she'd left Elysium Academy and Namine knew about the will and the note. She'd read the note Kairi left on the dining room table, in such pretty handwriting.
Namine shook her head. She used Curaga so many times that her head was spinning, and it took two potions to fix that particular problem.
'Kairi did all of this,' Namine thought, 'For me?'
It was so noble, so kind, so...so...so ridiculous.
"Kairi?"
No answer. Maybe nothing worked. Namine sighed, doing the only thing she thought would help Kairi now.
"Wake up already!" She took Kairi into her arms and delivered three forceful slaps to Kairi's face.
"What...?" Kairi asked, "What...the hell was that for?"
Great. Namine just saved Kairi's life, and the first thing Kairi does? Swear at her.
"We have to talk," Namine answered, "About, well, this."
Kairi looked around. "I shouldn't be alive right now."
Namine stared. For once, she was lost for words. How she even came from someone like Kairi was anyone's guess. Kairi was just so noble and so...so good that something needed to be said.
"You weren't," Namine said, "Now to the dining room. There are actually places to sit in there."
--------
"What the fuck were you thinking?!"
Thus started Namine's rather angry screed.
"No, wait," She continued, "Don't tell me. You probably weren't thinking. Or you were thinking way too much about whatever it is that would cause you to cut yourself open with a Keyblade."
Kairi blinked. "I thought that you could have a chance to actually live a life," she said hoarsely, "Because I've lived too long in this glass cage."
"You know," Namine said, "It's stuff like that that makes me wonder if you really wanted to be a Princess of Heart. You don't seem to like it, I guess, considering that you did all of that, and while I appreciate the gesture, there were other, non-fatal things you could've done. But no. I guess you picked up the idea that you need to atone for something. Well? What is it? Did you not want to live anymore?"
"It wasn't worth it," Kairi said, "I wanted to be a normal girl. I thought that maybe you could be what I never was."
"Alive?" Namine asked.
Kairi wiped away a few tears and said, "Happy. Really happy. Not this fake shit where I have to smile so hard that my cheeks hurt. I figured that maybe Sora would be happier with you than with me. I figured that no one will really miss me."
"Hah!" Namine exclaimed, "Sora would be miserable with me, and Marluxia would be miserable without me. As for no one missing you, someone has been looking for you."
"Everyone who mattered to me died ten years ago," Kairi said, "I wanted to believe that this was my home and it isn't. I figured that no one would really give a damn about this...this...outsider, so..."
Namine shook her head. "Except for the part where someone has been looking for you. Still is. Do you still have it? The bracelet that you had since you were about five?"
Kairi nodded. "I have it, but I don't remember where I got it from."
"That person..." Namine said, "She's looking for you. She has since you left your real home, Kairi. So we'll part for now, and you have to forge your own path, separate from Riku and Sora."
"Can I do that?" Kairi asked.
Namine nodded. "I think you can. The question is, will you?"
Namine stood up and smiled. "Goodbye, Kairi...good luck."
The portal opened, and Namine stepped in, leaving Kairi alone in that brightly-lit dining room.
---------
The next morning, Kairi found a note on her dining room table, written hastily on the back of her old one.
Kairi,
If you're reading this note, then you didn't do something else that I need to come back there and smack you upside the head for doing. Congratulations! You're alive today. Isn't that great? Welcome to the start of a new life, with emphasis on life. Don't live for me or anyone else. Live for yourself for a change. See if you aren't better for it. I believe in you, but that's not going to do much.
You should believe in you. In the end, you're all you have.
Best of Luck,
Namine.
P.S. If you pull another stunt like that, I'm beating you with that Keyblade of yours. Yes, I have it. No, you aren't getting it back.
Kairi looked out of the large picture window, smiled, and immediately picked up the phone. After she hastily dialed a number and got an answer, she sighed.
"Hello," Kairi said, "Do you move from the Destiny Islands to Radiant Garden.....you do? Great. Thanks!"
